2010 is Off to a Great Start

There is so much going on here at the Playwrights Foundation and we want to keep you posted. Don't miss this month's reading of American Sexy by Trista Baldwin—his coming Monday and Tuesday, February 22 & 23. We're honored to have Trista here from The Playwrights Center in Minneapolis. We've also got Octavio Solis' new class, Writing Like a Mo Fo. I mean, with titles like these you've got to check them out!

BAPF 2010: The 33rd Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival dates and location are now set—July 23 through August 1, 2010 at the Thick House in San Francisco. The full season will be announced in April!

We're thrilled to announce that PF is the new home for the Sister City Playwrights Exchange, whose mission is to swap talented, under-recognized playwrights in several regions of the US, Canada and England. Stay tuned for information on our inaugural exchange project coming in 2010! Learn more.

New Spring Classes Announced

Get your writing on! Announcing a new line-up of Spring 2010 classes for writers of all levels.

Liz Duffy Adams' workshop, The Tao of Playwriting, just ended, and we hear it was a luminous experience! This sold out workshop gave 12 bold students a chance to explore totally new territory and our exceptional actors brought their words to life on the final day of the class. A big thanks to Liz, the actors and the workshop participants for bringing their passion and sweat to our studio!

Producing Partnerships:
9th Annual BOA

The 9th Annual Bay One Acts (BOA) Festival, a PF producing partnership with Three Wise Monkeys (3WM) Theatre Company starts February 18 and continues through March 13, 2010.

This year's festival focuses on the theme of "building community," between and across small theatre companies and theatre artists devoted to cultivating new theatrical work. Playwrights at this year's festival include Crish Barth, Tim Bauer, William Bivins, Stuart Bousel, Jon Brooks, Megan Cohen, Bennett Fisher, Daniel Heath, Sam Leichter, Edward Luhn and Lauren Yee.

The Playwrights Foundation is proud to be producing Generic Play by Edward Luhn, with Jill MacLean directing, February 18 through March 7. Purchase Tickets

Jesus is coming soon... Really!

Tickets are now on sale for ...and Jesus Moonwalks the Mississippi by Marcus Gardley (PF Alumnus). This is a PF co-production with The Cutting Ball Theater and is directed by Amy Mueller. ...and Jesus Moonwalks the Mississippi runs from March 12 to April 11, 2010.

You're Invited: Please join the PF Staff and Board of Trustees on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 5pm for a special preview performance and after-party with the cast and playwright. Tickets are $15. This will be a special night to experience the final developmental process for a breathtaking new play by one of America's foremost playwrights, Marcus Gardley. We've spent several years working with Marcus on developing the play and are proud to host a night for PF friends to celebrate its success. Tickets are extremely limited, so get your's soon! Congratulations Resident Playwrights

We're so proud of Garret Groenveld for his acceptance in the 2010 Global Arts Project at Aurora Theater. His play The Serving Class was presented on February 8.

Eugenie Chan has a double bill opening at San Francisco's Cutting Ball Theater, May 21 through June 20, 2010: Bone to Pick and Diadem, directed by Rob Melrose.

Christopher Chen's newest work Lu Shen, The Mad will have a staged reading at Fluid Motion Theater in New York this spring.

    Smudge was developed in a PF Rough Reading Series.
  • Lascivious Something by Sheila Callaghan, playing at Women's Project and Productions, Off-Broadway

    Lascivious Something received development on PF's BAPF in 2007.
  • The Aliens by Annie Baker, playing at Rattlestick Theatre Company
    April 15 to May 23, 2010
    Annie Baker's Body Awareness Week received development on the 2007 BAPF and was produced Off-Broadway in the fall of 2009.

Lake George Theater Lab
New Musical Submissions are being accepted for the Sixth Annual Lake George Theater Lab, located in the Adirondack Mountains, to be worked on with a professional group of actors and designers. 2010 XYZ Festival of New Work
The deadline for submission for the 2010 XYZ Festival of New Work is March 15, 2010. A panel will convene in March/April to review each play. Artists selected for the 2010 XYZ will be notified starting April 30, 2010. Please be advised that all submissions must be sent to literary@aboutfacetheatre.com with "XYZ Festival Submission" in the subject line, and must be accompanied by a submission form.
